In this lecture
- How rising and falling wedges form
- When a wedge is a reversal or a continuation
- Entry orders beyond the wedge line
- Target: the height of the wedge
- Partial profit and letting the rest run
A wedge is a pause where traders decide the next direction. When the target is reached, close part of the position and let the rest run.
From the lecture
A fixed risk on every trade and a stop loss you place first. Protecting the account comes before everything else.
How Dr. Qazi teaches
Lesson notes
Rising wedge (bearish)
Price rises between two upward-sloping lines that converge; the lower line is steeper, so the rally is losing room. After an uptrend it is a bearish reversal; inside a downtrend it is a bearish continuation.
Falling wedge (bullish)
Price falls between two downward-sloping lines that converge; the upper line is steeper. At the bottom of a downtrend it is a bullish reversal; inside an uptrend it is a bullish continuation.
Trading it
- Entry: after a close below the lower line (rising wedge) or above the upper line (falling wedge). Entry orders can be placed just beyond the line.
- Target: about the height of the wedge at its widest part, projected from the breakout.
- Management: close part at the target and let the rest run if the move continues.
Khulasa (Roman Urdu / Hindi)
- Rising wedge aksar bearish, falling wedge aksar bullish.
- Dono reversal bhi ho sakte hain aur continuation bhi.
- Line ke bahar candle close ke baad entry.
- Target: wedge ki sab se chauri jagah ki height.
Questions
Is a rising wedge bullish or bearish?
Bearish. It usually breaks down, whether it forms after an uptrend (reversal) or inside a downtrend (continuation).
Is a falling wedge bullish?
Yes. It usually breaks upward, as a reversal after a downtrend or a continuation in an uptrend.
How do you set a target for a wedge?
Measure the height of the wedge at its widest part and project it from the breakout point.
What is the difference between a wedge and a triangle?
In a wedge both lines slope the same way; in a triangle they slope towards each other or one is flat.
Where is the stop loss in a wedge trade?
Beyond the last swing inside the wedge, on the other side of the breakout.
How reliable are wedge patterns?
They are watched by many traders, but breakouts can fail. Wait for a close beyond the line and trade with the higher-timeframe trend when possible.
