How to read and analyse NFP news data

NFP is one of the biggest monthly market movers. This lesson shows how to read the data on a news calendar and judge whether it is positive or negative for the dollar.

What NFP is and when it comes out

Non-Farm Payrolls is the US jobs report. It is usually released on the first Friday of the month at 8:30 AM New York time: about 5:30 PM Pakistan time in summer (US daylight time) and 6:30 PM in winter.

Reading actual vs forecast

  • Actual higher than forecast: usually seen as good for the US dollar.
  • Actual lower than forecast: usually seen as bad for the dollar.
  • Also check the unemployment rate, average hourly earnings and the revision of last month. Mixed numbers can make price swing both ways.
  • Gold often moves opposite to the dollar, but not always.

Protecting your account

Spreads widen and price can jump at the release. Many traders close or protect trades before NFP and wait for the first candles to settle before trading.

  • NFP: US jobs report, mahine ka pehla Friday.
  • Pakistan time: garmiyon mein 5:30 PM, sardiyon mein 6:30 PM.
  • Actual forecast se zyada = aam tor par dollar ke liye achha.
  • News ke waqt spread barhta hai; trades protect karein.
